X Factor Week 5: Bieber, Jonas and Judges Break Through Top 24
Thousands auditioned. Hundreds went to boot camp. Now, "X Factor USA" is down to the top 24 contestants. With the help of special guest judges Justin Bieber (and his manager Scooter Braun), Nick Jonas, Will.i.am. and Marc Anthony, the top 24 will be narrowed down to a top 16. Who will make the cut ? We'll see next week.
While Wednesday's episode featured a few more boot camp auditions, let's just skip that considering those that made it the top 24 went straight to the judges houses. Before they got there, the judges received a personal phone call letting them know exactly what group they were going to get. The choices were "Teens," "Young Adults," "Over 25" and "Groups." Everyone got what they wanted except for L.A. Reid, who slammed the phone down when he found out he had the "Over 25" group. Demi Lovato got "Young Adults," Simon got "Groups" and Britney got "Teens."
Wednesday night FOX aired the Young Adults and Group sets, which included stand outs like Jennel Garcia, Paige Thomas, Willie Jones and CeCe Frey. Nick Jonas sat in with Demi as each gave one final performance that would either carry them to the live shows or end their journey. CeCe, Paige and Jennel delivered as usual, though Nick Jonas said he was kind of confused with Paige. Willie Jones on the other hand took a huge gamble and sang the same song that nearly got him eliminated during the boot camp round. Luckily, he had his words down and vocals together and seemed to impress Demi and Nick.
On to the Groups... Simon Cowell pulled the same trick this year as he did last year, by creating three groups out of contestants that would have otherwise been eliminated at boot camp. Oddly enough, two of the groups created were better than the original groups in my opinion. Those were "The Lylas," a girl group, and Lyric 145, which to be really honest gave me a "Fugees" kind of vibe. Nonetheless, those two groups killed it and I wouldn't be surprised if they make it to the live shows and possibly top 10.
Thursday night L.A. Reid met with the "Over 25" group and he was very blunt in telling them he did not want them point, blank... period! While Reid was not happy, I think he has some stand outs in his group and those include David Correy, Tate Stevens and Jason Brock. That said, watch David Correy and Jason Brock's performances below.
Lastly, Britney Spears sat down with Will.i.am to narrow down her group of "teens," which is arguably the best group in terms of talent. In that group you have Diamond White, Carly Rose Sonenclar, Arin Ray, and Beatrice Miller. Making it very hard for Spears, all four performed extremely well. That group also includes Reed and James.
"X Factor" will continue next week with final results from the judges houses. All four judges will have to cut their groups of six down to four, for a total of 16 acts going to the live shows. After that, "X Factor" goes on break due to MLB World Series coverage through November 1.
