X Factor Week 4: Boot Camp Breaks Britney Spears, Contestants Down
This week's "X Factor USA" boot camp episodes were tough on not only the contestants, but the judges, as we watched some people thought to be front runners crumble under pressure. Words were forgotten, vocals were pitchy and there were just some gut wrenching moments that made it difficult to watch.
"I'm sad. I feel so sorry for him," Britney Spears said as Wednesday and Thursday night's episodes went on prompting her to cry at some points. She knew what was happening ("They're letting nerves get the best of them") but she couldn't stop the process nor was she allowed to get up and comfort a contestant.
Sparing you the worst moments (though you can watch them in video above), let's focus on the positive. Teenage singer Diamond White walked away from both of her boot camp week performances strong. Having her mother there as motivation may have helped as each time Diamond went on stage she gave her best and the judges loved it.
David Correy from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area was another stand out. He too gave all both nights and the judges equally appreciated his talent.
Contestant Willie Jones, the Country singer that on the surface makes you think he is going to rap, did extremely well on his first night of bootcamp but stumbled during day 2. He allowed a more seasoned contestant to swing him into singing a song he did not quite know and that may have just knocked him out of the competition because not knowing the words is a big deal.
R&B singer Arin Ray found love at boot camp with fellow contestant Normani Hamilton. He claimed to not be interested in a girlfriend until he wins the $5 million prize, but their onstage chemistry battling it out on Thursday night proved otherwise. Let's just hope this doesn't mess up his chances because she seemed to be the better performer.
13-year -old singer Carly Rose Sonenclar also won the judges this week. To no surprise she out shined her duet partner and it' s pretty safe to say Carly Rose is going to the judges houses.
Lastly, why is "X Factor" pitting Paige Thomas (who resembles Rihanna) against CeCe Frey ? They have different styles, but nonetheless producers made their boot camp performances into an over the top diva duel. They are talented but really X Factor? Anyway, both girls rocked renditions of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" Wednesday and it seems one faltered singing "Secrets" Thursday. Who will make it? We'll have to see on Wednesday's episode.
In case you missed it, Justin Bieber, Marc Anthony, and Will.i.am will be joining the judges next week to help decide who makes it further in the competition. Something upsets L.A. Reid to the point where he walks out so we'll have to see what that's about too.
"X Factor" airs Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on FOX.
