Sophia Chang Appointed Senior Vice President, A&R Operations, Island Records
A&R Executive Sophia Chang has been appointed Senior Vice President, A&R Operations, Island Records, it was announced today by David Massey, President, Island Records. In her new role, Ms. Chang will be integrally involved in numerous business aspects of A&R activities, including budgeting and recording. Additionally, she will supervise all day-to-day operations of the A&R department, acting as a liaison with the label to ensure the successful and timely delivery of album releases. She will interface with artists, management and producers in negotiating deals and obtaining key clearance and production-related information. She will also be integrally involved in soundtrack operations and compilations. Ms. Chang, who is based in New York, will report directly to Mr. Massey.
“Sophia is a highly experienced executive and business woman, who brings a wide variety of interests and pursuits to our company,” said Mr. Massey. “Her backgrounds at major record labels, as well as in management and production, and media give her a unique perspective on the challenges and responsibilities of A&R Operations at Island.”

Ms. Chang has served as Senior Vice President, A&R Administration and Operations, Universal Music Group, since April 2014. Prior to joining UMG, Sophia Chang worked as a Marketing and A&R Executive at Atlantic and Jive Records. In addition she managed D'Angelo, Q Tip, A Tribe Called Quest, and Raphael Saadiq.
