Music Video: Harleighblu - Enough Now
Our attention was caught recently by the distinctive, soulful voice of 21-year-old Harleighblu and her confident, bold, at times breathy and scornful delivery on the track 'Enough Now', as she tells her lover that she has put up with the lies for long enough and 'now I gotta quit, I've had enough now'. The U.K. singer had an early start in music, saying she 'was recording in studios and writing songs - proper songs - from the age of seven...From a little girl, I knew what I wanted to do; I went out there and tried my hardest to achieve it'. She was influenced by 'my mum's vinyl collection, which was rare grooves, classic soul, northern soul and old school R&B', and most significantly by Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill, because 'they weren't following any trend any fad or any fashion; they were just completely themselves as artists, and that is what I hope to be'.
Her natural talent saw her winning local talent competitions, and she later went on to work with a series of producers, which led to the opportunity to sing background vocals for Grammy nominated Musical Youth and then put together her own band to perform on local music circuits. After spending some time finding her way musically, she clicked with producer Joe Buhdha, saying 'he knew exactly what he was doing in terms of my sound and the sound I was trying to create...I wouldn't have the final sound with out his genius'. Having signed to the Tru Thoughts record label (Alice Russell, Quantic), she is due to release her debut album 'Forget Me Not', with the single 'Enough Now' recently featured on BBC 1 XTRA's Mistajam, and she says of her upcoming album, 'I'm really proud of this album...I've worked really hard and put my heart and soul into the album'.
