Yuna's Video For "Mannequin" Shares The Rollercoaster Of Love
The portrayal of love and human connection/disconnection has been expressed in countless ways within the world of music. Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna has her own take when it comes to the music video for the song "Mannequin." Yuna has years of experience creating music, including working with Usher and Pharrell, so "Mannequin" comes smoothly and naturally as a form of artistic articulation.
The story of music video tells the tale of two lovers struggling. Their love has become dull but the two still have some sort of common ground and passion for each other that keeps the fire still burning. No matter how far they stray at times they always seem to find their way back to one another. My favorite aspect of the video is that their love is represented by them dancing individually and then after a while realizing they should dance together instead.
"‘Mannequin’ is a story about two people in a relationship that has lost its spark. I had two of my friends who were dancers to be in the video. Brian Oh, the director, captured the emotions and movements of the dancers so perfectly. The whole idea of it was to tell viewers that there is still hope. When two people had been in a relationship for a long time, there will always be that one common ground that will keep them running back to each other… for this couple, it’s music and dancing."
