Soul Scratch is an 'eclectic mix of independent musicians from Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.' Influenced by artists such as Ray Charles, James Brown, Etta James, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye, Soul Scratch aim to bring a 'fresh take on classic soul, funk and jazz' with a sound that 'is a seamless blend of old and new'. On the Broken Complex label, Soul Scratch brings together members of L.A. bands Odessa and The Q's, and consists of singer Dale Spollett and musicians Adam Greenburg, Joel Givertz, Matt Reale and Johnny Chou, with their objective in starting Soul Scratch being 'to give us an outlet to play the music we like and listen to ourselves. We all grew up listening to acts like Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Eddie Bo, The Meters, and just all that classic soul stuff. We just wanted to make good music'. They have released 'Soul Scratch' (2010) and the EP 'Meet Me In The Sun' (2012), and here they sing 'Valerie' by Amy Winehouse, and, below, an original song, 'Meet Me In The Sun'.
