Last night (Fri, May 3rd), Yahoo! On the Road kicked off their mobile tour series at New York City’s famous United Palace Theater. With entertainment reporter, Ben Lyons, as the concert’s host, he briefly introduces Ryan Leslie as the opening act. The singer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and rapper immediately pumps up the crowd with “Black Mozart” from his latest album “Black Mozart” which was recently released on April 16th. Continuing on with his set Ryan decided to perform “History" as his time dwindled.
As the jam-packed theater was filled with such excitement and anticipation, Grammy-award winning musician, John Legend, together with the Salomé Chamber Orchestra, strongly won the crowd over as he started up with one of his top hits "Tonight (Best You Ever Had)”. With his golden voice, the soul singer then surprised us with Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” and Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water", in which his voice filled the hall and clothed the audience in goosebumps as he sang them with such ease and comfort.
He later announced his upcoming new album “Love in the Future" and gave us a little taste with “Dreams” and “Who Do We Think We Are”. Also being able to interact well with the audience, the crowd had a good laugh when Legend unashamedly messed up while performing "Good Morning". As he confidently started again, he was able to carry on with his smooth vocals all throughout the night while also singing "Used to Love You", "Save Room" and "Everybody Knows". Leading to yet another amazing performance, he instantly moved the crowd when he shifted to a more upbeat number as he joyously sang "Green Light". Shortly after, he ended the night with an encore of his exquisite ballad "Ordinary People" as he emotionally sang with such grace.
Overall, the show was an enjoyable event with outstanding music in which Ryan Leslie was able to get the crowd on their feet while John Legend executed his hits in a smooth and great manner.
