X Ambassadors Gives Us "The Reason" To Listen To Their EP
The most exciting and viewed advertisement of the 2014 FIFA World Cup was the 5-minute ad, "The Game Before The Game" by Beats By Dre. Was it because of the high-profile cameos such as Neymar da Silva Jr., LeBron James, Nicki Minaj, and Serena Williams? Or was it the song that perfectly matched the sentiment of the anxiety, pressure, and inspiration behind the world event? Over 24 million views would argue the latter. X Ambassadors, signed to KIDinaKorner/Interscope, released their EP, "The Reason" earlier this year and the breadwinner was the collaborative effort with label mate Jamie N Commons for "Jungle" that was featured in the Beats By Dre commerical - now engraved in the minds of everyone who watched the World Cup. Some people strike out with one great song but X Ambassadors boasts 5 more songs on their EP with equal epic, alternative rock sounds.
What's great about X Ambassadors' music is that it speaks the story of the life of someone with a dream deferred through relatable stories and choruses that are powerful as they are sad. "I left my life behind, But I ain't got time to look back on. When I was free, when I was free. Free to be who I want to be". The stories of trying to make your dream work but eventually falling into the "safe" work force are the authentic stories told in "Free & Lonely" and "The Business." On the flip side, "Giants" brings an inspiration to the regular "hometown" person that looks up and realizes that they could be bigger than what they are.
A song like "Unsteady" should come with a warning. The drums beat to the fear of losing control and the chorus haunts you with the line "If you love me, don't let go... Hold on to me, 'cause I'm a little unsteady".
"Shining" sounds like it would be perfectly paired with a movie about loving someone who is damaged. "Everything’s changed, everything’s changed. Your money don’t talk. But the money don’t rain‘Cause you, you are my shining. You are my shining star... see I no longer care..."
All the songs on "The Reason" sums up what it means to be an alternative rock group from Brooklyn. Now that they have had major exposure thanks to Beats By Dre and the World Cup, X Ambassadors will be embarking on a tour this fall with Jamie N Commons, presented by KIDinaKorner and it is set to kick off in their borough. They are currently in the studio working on their full-length project with producer Alex Da Kid.
