Watch List: You Won't Be Able To Resist The Bad Rabbits Musical Melting Pot
A melting pot of influences - both cultural and musical - Boston five-piece Bad Rabbits conjure up an invigorating blend of funk, r&b and rock that infuses polished, infectious grooves with a boldly energetic urgency and swaggering confidence - 'we wanted to bridge the gap between the two musical worlds we come from; one of them is classic R&B, and the other is rock. They may seem disparate, but we tried to fuse them'.
Drawing membership from a reconstituted Eclectic Collective, in 2007 the newly formed Bad Rabbits set about crafting their sound, while also spending time serving as the backing band for the legendary rapper Slick Rick. Releasing their 'Stick Up Kids' EP in 2009, they won 'Best Pop/R&B' band in Boston in 2010, and went on tour extensively tour the U.S. in 2010 and 2011. Having performed multiple times at both SXSW and on the Vans Tour, the band in 2013 released their 'American Love' album, which was followed this year with both the acoustic 'Dusted' EP and a tour of the U.K..
With band members - Dua Boakye (vocals), Sheel Davé (drums), Salim Akram (guitar), Graham Masser (bass) and Santi Araujo (guitar) - drawing on Indian, Argentinian, Italian, Ghanaian and Liberian heritage, the band's music reflects the American melting pot experience, with Sheel saying 'these diverse backgrounds forming one entity represents what America is. It reminds me of when I used to go see Deftones and GlassJaw as a kid. Their audiences weren't only into a variety of music, but they were also multi-cultural. I always thought that was so cool. We may come from different cultures, but we all bond over music...we're just doing what comes naturally'.
