Watch List: You Will Want To Be 'Positively' First In Line For Tess Henley's Upcoming 'Wonderland' EP
With a pedigree that includes winning multiple songwriting competitions and working with Dice Raw of The Roots and Grammy-nominated producer Khari Mateen on her 'High Heels & Sneakers' album, Tess Henley has shown herself in recent years to be an emerging artist of rare promise. Appearing several times at our showcases last year, she proved to us in the flesh the endearing appeal of her sweetly beautiful voice, soulfully sophisticated r&b sound and thoughtfully sensitive songwriting, all attributes that contributed to her winning the most recent rendition of The Guitar Center's 'Singer-Songwriter' III contest.
As a result, Henley impressed legendary, multi-Grammy winning producer Don Was (Rolling Stones, Al Green, John Mayer, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt) to the point that he soon assembled a powerhouse collection of musicians - James Gadson on drums, James "Hutch" Hutchinson on bass, Mark Goldenberg on guitar, Mike Finnigan on Hammond Organ and Michito Sanchez on percussion - at Hollywood's Henson Recording Studios (Carol King 'Tapestry', Joni Mitchell 'Blue') to work with Henley on her 'Wonderland' EP. With the collective experience of having worked with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Al Green, Aretha Franklin and Jimi Hendrix, the team joined Henley on keyboards to flesh out her naturally polished and sophisticated soul/r&b sensibility to create the 'Wonderland' EP, which is now available for pre-order on iTunes along with the title track.
With Henley saying 'working with Don and the team of musicians he brought in was everything you’d hope a project to be. The whole experience was truly life-changing', here she performs 'Positively Me' and 'Wonderland' from the EP live at the Guitar Center Hollywood Vintage Room.
