In short, Joyce Manor is a pop-punk band based out of Torrance, California. Lead singer Barry Johnson and guitarist Chase Knobbe "conceived [the band] in the back of a car in the Disneyland parking lot" in 2008. The duo first began with folk-punk music -- following in the footsteps of friend Andrew Jackson Jihad who asked them to open for him at a show of his.
However, Joyce Manor decided to go in a different direction with their music. They added drummer Jeff Enzor and bassist Matt Ebert to the band, kicking up the different elements to make for the perfect four-piece. On the band's website, when asked about the switch from folk-punk to pop-punk, Barry says, "playing loud is just more fun." Joyce Manor is looks in high regard to groups like the late 70's punk pioneers The Descendents and influential 90's emo band Jawbreaker to inspire their sound.
The band released their first album in 2011. The self-titled album found unexpected success and they followed it up with 2014's Never Hungover Again which went on to bring the band even more recognition. They effortlessly have racked up over 3 million streams on their singles, and it's only climbing...
