Watch List: The Main Squeeze - A Change Is Gonna Come

Originating in Bloomington, Indiana, and now domiciled in Chicago, The Main Squeeze describe their mix of funk, rock, hip-hop and blues as 'a raging post-funk experience', the distinctive and uniquely interwoven blend of funk grooves, blazing guitar solos and bluesy soul articulated through the superbly tight musicianship of Ben Silverstein, Max Newman, Jeremiah Hunt, Reuben Gingrich and given voice by the the smooth and expressively soulful lead singer Corey Frey, here displayed in their fantastic live renditions of Sam Cooke's 'A Change Is Gonna Come' and The Temptations' 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' (below) from their recently shot cover series at the What?Noise studios in New Orleans.

Forming in 2009, their unique sound and busy live performance schedule soon saw them catching the attention of fans both locally and further afield, with the release of their debut EP ' First Drops' in 2011 being followed by the album 'The Main Squeeze' in 2012, along the way opening for the likes of Young Jeezy and Wale and playing a wide range of venues and festivals both nationally and internationally, including Bloomington's premiere live music venue 'The Bluebird', Gramercy Theatre, Bonnaroo, Equifunk and GlowFest, as well as the Venetian Macau International Jazz and Blues Competition and Festival where they also won the $30,000 dollar first prize, with an extra highlight being selected by Rolling Stone to open for The Roots and Jane's Addiction at the official Superbowl XLVI tailgate party in Indianapolis.

They are currently working on a new album with the legendary Randy Jackson after their manager played  him 'a couple of our tracks out in LA, and he ended up really liking them, Randy actually came to Indiana to see us', and are just now heading out on their Fall Tour, during which, if you are in NY, you can catch them on 11/27 at the Gramercy Theatre.
