Watch List: Taylor Berrett Is Feeling 'The Heat'
Catching the songwriting bug after beginning to learn the piano and guitar from the age 13, Warner Brothers singer/songwriter Taylor Berrett was motivated by the excitement and challenge of looking to craft ever more mature and sophisticated songs, and here, with folk-hued urgency and warmly appealing vocals of 'The Heat', he shows the fruits of that process as he articulates the sorts of frustrations that all struggling artists know well.
Talking about 'The Heat' with the producer of his upcoming album, Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran, One Direction), Berrett says that ''The Heat' is an interesting one for me...it is one of the only songs that I've ever done where I wrote all of the lyrics beforehand...usually it kind of all comes together at the same time...I kind of didn't know what it was about until I finished writing it', saying that the song is about a time when 'I was not signed, I had not a lot going on music-wise; I was trying to, and so it is kind of about the frustration of being stuck in one spot'.
His talent attracting the attention of the production team of Sturken and Rogers (Rihanna) at SRP Records, Berrett's music was soon introduced to noted songwriter Kara DioGuardi, who, having recruited him to her publishing company, went on to connect Berrett with Warner Brothers Records Chairman and super-producer, Rob Cavallo. The result saw Berrett signed to Warner Brothers, and he has in the time since been at work on the creation of his debut album, including spending time in the U.K. recording with highly regarded producers Jake Gosling and Eg White (Adele, James Blunt).
You can catch Berrett on tour across the U.S from September to October.
