Watch List: Tan Brown - Home
There is no pretense to be found with New York singer/songwriter Tan Brown, just a pure, authentic desire to communicate real, heartfelt emotion to the listener as she shares her thoughts and feelings, the beautiful, natural clarity of her vocal tone suffused with an instinctive sensitivity that lends an added poignance to the unrestrained vulnerability of her live rendition of 'Home', taken from her 'Storyteller' mixtape.
Having released the track 'Live Loved' in 2011, Brown's recent Storyteller project, 'a year of exploring minds that weren't my own... listening to tales of love and life... telling stories that weren't my own', what's our story? what's your story?', is an emotionally literate and honest detailing of the frailties, vulnerabilities and resilience of the human heart, Brown addressing the courage and self-awareness required for one to love and be loved, for one to nurture and be nurtured; the humility and insight required for one to acknowledge the inherent value within us all that makes us worthy of finding love and acceptance, both from ourselves and others, with production from France-based John XL and Christopher Celiz that is infused with a ruminative, haunting melancholia; the poignant keys, plaintive guitar and subdued percussion of 'Beautiful'; the pensively tumbling piano motif and ghostly harmonies of 'Dreams'; the spare, delicately vulnerable piano of 'Home'; the sum of 'Storyteller's parts reflecting the very best sensibilities of an artist for whom emotional authenticity is everything, the notion of which for Brown is as instinctive as breathing.
