Watch List: The Soul That Is Jessie Reyez
Jessie Reyez is somebody that has been deserving of the spotlight for an overdue amount of time. The talent has garnered some attention over the past half year for her track "Figures," which arrived at the tail end of summer. The independent artist is not even on a label yet and had the YouTube music video reach a million views. That's how you know she's more than just good.
Her uniqueness can be put in the forefront in her recent acoustic version of "Figures." In the caption of the video, Reyez's personality shines through: "Am I happy or am I sad? Nobody knows. Here's me singing my sad song 'Figures', with my guitar and a hole in my shorts. Sorry."
In the video we watch as the singer walks around doing whatever she wants until night falls upon the concrete scenery. Then as the song finishes she strums one quick, reckless chord, sets the guitar down, and runs off. One thing we absolutely have to mention is her voice because it's one that is reminiscent of the late Amy Winehouse and one with a sense of power -- in all definitions of the word.
"I gave you ride or die and you gave me games."
2017 will hopefully be the year that her career truly blooms. This week the prestigious Governors Ball festival in NYC shared its lineup and appropriately Jessie Reyez will be performing.
