Watch List: Sammie Jay Knows How To Be Truly 'Rich & Famous'
Proving that the pure joy of musical expression is reward enough in itself, U.K. born singer/songwriter Sammie Jay has no hesitation in taking her musical talents straight to the people, building a reputation for gathering the attention of passersby on streets on both sides of the Atlantic with her covers and originals, her distinctive and uniquely eloquent voice a charmingly charismatic mix of soulfully-hued passion and hushed, tender emotion.
Whether gathering crowds in London's Trafalgar Square or along the Santa Monica Promenade, Jay's obvious proficiency has its roots in a background rich in musical experience. Hailing from London, and having spent time growing up in Nashville, by the age of seven she was already on the stage in a West End production of Les Miserables, and at nine made her debut on T.V. in the U.S.. Appearing on various T.V. shows on both sides of the Atlantic (Barrymore, Maury Povich,) she was at eleven performing with her band in top venues in Nashville, including appearing at the Grand Ole Opry, and went on to play the role of Jenny Tinkler on the Nickelodeon show 'Big Time Rush'.
Explaining her motivation to share her music with people anywhere and everywhere, Jay says 'I do what I do because I love it with a passion. I could never grow tired of the process of creating music and writing songs...it doesn't matter to me if I am singing to a small bunch of people or if I am in a huge arena in front of thousands, I live and breathe the melody and lyrics of a good song'. Inspired by the likes of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, Jay recently followed up her previous projects 'I'm A Lady' and 'Listen To Me' with her new acoustic album, 'In The Raw'.
