Watch List: Samantha Johnson Shares Her 'Vision Of Love'
'Samantha Johnson just completely BLEW my mind' - so said an attendee at our 'Champagne Social' showcase in New York last August, the awe-struck sentiment reflecting the impact that the Massachusetts native had on the assembled crowd of music industry insiders as the 'mind blowing' power and beauty of her diva-like vocals echoed around the room. Redolent of the likes of Whitney and Mariah, yet with a uniquely beautiful and distinctive vocal tone all her own, the ringing, resonant clarity of Johnson's breathtakingly exquisite voice washed over the crowd as she displayed the kind of pin-point melismas, shimmering vibrato and stunningly agile vocal dynamics that had the crowd entranced, at times rendering them into an enraptured silence with both her emotive, confidently charismatic delivery and the effortlessly instinctive power and beauty that so naturally inhabit her incredible voice.
Not that we were surprised - while it may have only been a humble, in-the-living-room YouTube cover, when we came across the intuitively heartfelt emotion and instinctive musicality of Johnson's rendition of 'I Can't Make You Love Me' in 2012, we knew we had found a very special talent indeed. Certain of the fact that this was the rarest of vocal talents, we were sure to keep Johnson on our radar.
Involved with choir and musical theater growing up, Johnson - also a champion flautist - was inspired and influenced by the likes of Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, and, in particular, Michael Jackson, going on to audition for, and win, the role as lead female vocalist in the record-breaking stage show, 'Thriller Live', in London's prestigious West End, and she has toured the world with the production to places such as Japan, Scandinavia and Australia and New Zealand. Currently working on her own music, and being blessed with the kind of talent that is indeed most rare, we don't mind repeating ourselves when we say, 'Samantha Johnson...remember the name, and the voice'.
