Watch List: Orlando Dixon - It Won't Stop
Reaching out beyond his nearly 30,000 strong YouTube fanbase, Orlando Dixon's appearance on The Voice earlier this year allowed his smooth vocal tone to be heard by millions as a member of both Team Adam and Team Usher, with Dixon saying 'I wasn't thinking about it changing my life...I didn't know what to expect, you know, I was just grateful for the opportunity, and so when Usher turned around I was kind of like...now you've got to really work, like, do you want this...do you want to take something from this, or are you just here?...and so that point was when I really started investing in the process, and it honestly changed my life', and here he demonstrates the vocals that caught Usher's attention with a sensitive, delicately fluent rendition of Sevyn Streeter's 'It Won't Stop'.
Following up from The Voice by touring as a back up singer for K Michelle on the Rebellious Soul Tour with Sevyn Streeter, Dixon, a Washington D.C. native, started singing when he was six, competed in talent shows and showcases by the age of eight, and had early music industry experience with a production deal at 15. Motivated to learn more about his craft when the production deal fell through, he attended Berklee College of Music, after which he set his sights on pursuing a career in music, showing his commitment by quitting his 9-to-5 job in 2012 and beginning to book his own gigs, including playing our Sol Village and Live From Oz showcases, and steadily building an online fanbase with his covers and originals on YouTube. Having showcased his production and songwriting skills for Juanita Bynum and Regina Belle, and shared stages with Lalah Hathaway, Paula Cole and Philip Bailey, Dixon released his single 'Breaking Hearts' earlier in the year, and has future plans to release a full length album, saying 'the point I don’t want people to miss with my music is its timeless distinction. My goal isn’t just making a hit record, but also building a legacy'.
