Watch List: Noname Is One Who Can Deliver Trueness
Noname is someone that tells a story in her music. Telefone, the debut album which arrived in July, showcased 10 tracks from the rapper that try to breathe some new atmosphere into the rhythmic genres.
Tracks like "Diddy Bop," "Casket Pretty," and a majority of Telefone in general set a vibe of light and bright instrumentation, percussion, and production. With a flow similar to Killer Mike of Run the Jewels, Noname's raps are punctual and easy to remember. Add that to the recurring gospel environmental vocals and you have something that feels so organic and right. To add even more, the subject matter will hit you deep at times as Noname expresses herself on topics such as drug use, racial issues and even her own abortion experience.
Telefone made top 2016 releases for a variety of publications including Noisey, Pitchfork, and Stereogum and set a tone that maybe you should be paying attention. Noname may have appeared as a feature for Chance the Rapper, Mick Jenkins, and Kirk Knight, but the future is definitely hers.
