Watch List: Matt Koziol Will 'See You On The Way Down'
Growing up in New Jersey, Matt Koziol was surrounded by an eclectic mix of music courtesy of his parent's CD player - with Elvis Presley being an early favorite of his, he graduated to playing the guitar so as to emulate the guitar greats of Led Zeppelin, Cream and Aerosmith - 'it was amazing to me to see the state of complete solitude these musicians went into while playing. It was like they were in a different world, and I wanted to see what that world was like' - while also forming a now longstanding admiration for the fluent songwriting skills of James Taylor. Amalgamating these influences into his own style of folk/country-brushed pop that infuses undertones of blues and rock, Koziol's soulful, full bodied vocal tone lends itself to investing the emotional heart of his sensitive and reflective lyricism with a heartfelt maturity.
Pursuing his love of music and songwriting through musical theatre and classical voice training, he joined local choirs and went on to sing the New Jersey All-State Choir. With his first open mic experience at fourteen fueling his passion for music, he has gone on tour locally and nationally, making stops at notable venues along the way such as the Starland Ballroom, Webster Hall, House of Blues, Rockwood Music Hall, Arlene’s Grocery, Sullivan Hall, and The Hotel Café. Having released a live album and an EP, 'Grace Matters', before the release of his 'Heart On The Line' album in 2011, Koziol's most recent 'Pivot In Place' EP is currently available on Noisetrade.com ahead of its iTunes release.
