Watch List: Mad Satta Reflect On 'Simpler Times'
Mad Satta had us under their spell from our first listen back in 2013 with the warmly inviting appeal of their supremely sophisticated blend of soul, jazz, reggae, hip-hop and r&b, marking them out in our minds as ones to watch as they built their reputation on the New York and Boston live scenes. Infusing their eclectically inspired, Berklee College of Music-honed musical sensibility with lush keys, warm grooves and polished horns for lead singer Joanna Teters to muse over with her smoky, sensually gritty vocals, the band followed up last years residency at the prestigious Zoo Labs in California with the release of their Grammy-winner Prince Charles Alexander-produced (Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, Destiny's Child) album 'Comfort'.
Closing out the old year and kicking off the new with performances at both Daryl Hall's (Hall & Oates) 'Daryl's House' and the NYC Winter Jazzfest, Mad Satta are looking forward to sharing the stage with the likes of Roy Ayres, Snarky Puppy, Robert Glasper and Anthony Hamilton at this year's Art Of Cool Project in Durham, North Carolina. Showcasing what people can expect, and because of the 'great response from Ted and Joanna's acoustic version of "By Your Side," we decided to make some more!', here singer Teters and guitarist Ted Morcaldi sit down at Daryl's House to give ample example of the sophisticated soul, intuitive musicality and heartfelt emotion that make Mad Satta a standout emerging band with an acoustic rendition of 'Simpler Times', taken from their upcoming 'Break Me Free' EP.
