Watch List: Lose Yourself In The Groove With Ripe's 'Brother Sky'
Capturing the essence of a naturally feelgood musical instinct that developed out of friends jamming together, in 2011 the now 7-piece Boston-based Ripe got down to crafting their irrepressibly infectious brand of self-described 'dance/pop-funk/party rock' with a straightforward aim - 'to make you happy and make you dance. And then we like to party with you'. Mission accomplished, it would seem; having created a following on the Boston music scene with the celebratory vibe of their energetic live show, Ripe have been spreading their funky, gonna-make-you-move message from Vermont to North Carolina to New York, including playing shows in the latter at The Bitter End and The Shrine.
Having released their 'Produce the Juice' EP in 2013, here Ripe showcase the smooth grooving instincts and polished sophistication of their 'funkifized' sound in the first installment of their 'Live Studio Concert Series'. Filmed in front of a live audience at Berklee College of Music's Studio 1, the ebullient horns, funky guitar licks and infectious groove of 'Brother Sky' frame the smooth soul of singer Robbie Wulfsohn's adroitly versatile vocal delivery as the band prove that what has been ripening on a funky vine in Boston is now ready for the wider world.
