Watch List: Lizbet Sempa - On These Hills
17-year-old U.K. singer/songwriter Lizbet Sempa caught our attention with her enchanting voice, a voice of poignant, haunting beauty and emotionally expressive vulnerability, a voice that is at the same time confidently mature for one so young. Allied to this is her equally mature songwriting, with thoughtful, introspective lyrics that speak of the uncertainties of life and the constant quest for an understanding of the self, with Sempa describing her music 'as an expression or just a feeling'.
A classically trained pianist, Sempa began songwriting at the age of 14, with her influences ranging from musical styles such as acid jazz and hip hop to artists including Jamiroquai, Erykah Badu, The Killers and Quadron. She was made a Soundclouder of the Day in March, being described as making 'hypnotic soulful pop', and received praise from the Mercury-nominated U.K. rapper Ghostpoet, and having released several songs and videos online is currently working towards releasing an EP 'Indirect Thoughts' in July. Here she sings her song 'On These Hills', a song she says is about 'me trying to deal with the special people in my life changing. They have a reason but you don't know why. You start questioning whether its you. You're confused', and below gives her beautiful rendition of The Killers 'When You Where Young'.
