Watch List: Layla Zoe - The Thrill Is Gone (Live)
Canadian blues singer Layla Zoe fully embodies the notion of taking her passion for music and expression to heart, to the point that some of her 'favorite artists are the ones that I have tattooed on my body; Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Muddy Waters; I love Janis Joplin of course, she was an influence when I was younger', and this passion and commitment for art, expression and authenticity is equally evident in her emotion laden, blisteringly raw and from-the-gut powerhouse vocals, vocals that prompted the legendary Jeff Healey to comment 'she has created probably the biggest buzz vocally of any singer I've heard about in years in Toronto', her outstanding vocals seen here as she jams out with 'The Thrill Is Gone'.
Born in British Columbia and raised with her father's love of blues and his diverse record collection, Zoe began singing early, going on to first step on stage with her father's band at age fourteen, and says 'with my music it's important to express honestly my emotions, so, of course, there's moments of joy...there's a lot of beautiful things I want to express with my music...I'm extremely honest, even if it touches on dark subjects or things that people are afraid to talk about'.
A committed work ethic has seen her release seven albums, including 'Shades Of Blue' (2006), 'The Fire Girl' (2009) and 'Sleep Little Girl' (2011), building a fan base in Canada and Europe with her energetic and passionate live shows. Her most recent album, the soulful, bluesy rockin' 'The Lily' (2013), produced by renowned German singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Henrik Freischlader and released by Cable Car Records, made many 'Best Of' lists in Canada, Europe and the U.K., with Zoe being nominated for the 'Female Vocalist Of The Year' in Canada's Maple Blues Awards.
