Watch List: Katie Boeck - All I Need
Struggling with how to define her musical aesthetic after a ten year journey that had taken her around the country and across the world while exploring her influences and inspirations, Los Angeles based singer/songwriter Katie Boeck relented and listened to the voice that had been whispering away in her head, the voice that had been all along saying 'see the forest through the trees'. Trusting 'the journey and not just the destination', Boeck listened to her authentic artistic voice and allowed herself to write 'the music I've always wanted to write. Music based on real life experience--the ups and downs--the twists and curves--the ebbs and flows', and here she settles down in the East West Studios in L.A. to give a performance of her song 'All I Need', the gentle, tender beauty of her voice brushed with heartfelt, emotive honesty as she sings with passionate relief about finding the welcoming embrace of a safe, protective love.
Growing up listening to country music, she was inspired upon discovering the 'confessional and vulnerable' sensibility of Joni Mitchell, going on to find a touch of R&B in her songwriting as she spent the past two years looking to integrate her influences into an authentic musical mode of expression. In the process of finishing up a Kickstarter-funded live performance EP, Boeck has played notable venues in L.A. and N.Y., including having a residency at Witzend and playing at venues like Room 5, Rockwood Music Hall and Hotel Cafe, and this year appeared at SXSW.
