Watch List: Jon Allen's Every 'Night & Day' Mean Nothing Without Love
It is not hard to see why U.K. singer Jon Allen's voice so impressed the likes of Jools Holland, Duffy and Mark Knopfler - intuitively soulful and flushed with both a maturely weighted huskiness and an emotionally expressive fluency, it is the perfect vessel through which to convey the trials and tribulations of life and love, happiness and heartbreak. With a pensive bassline and contemplative piano setting the mood, Allen's outstanding voice articulates the melancholic pall and emotional torpor that can descend when love slips through one's fingers, channeling a plaintive cry for a special someone to 'come back and revive my senses' on his latest, Radio 2 supported single', 'Night & Day', taken from his upcoming album,'Deep River'.
Growing up admiring artists like Tom Waits, Led Zeppelin, James Taylor and the Beatles, Allen's passion for music at school led him to go on to further study at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA), founded by Sir Paul McCartney, to do a songwriting course. When a rave review of a demo landed him management offers, he made the move to the London and immersed himself in the city's live music scene, gathering his band around him along the way. Having played on stages with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Mark Knopfler, KT Tunstall and Jose Gonzalez, he was hand-picked in 2009 by Jools Holland to appear on his show, and has received consistent support for music from his 'Dead Man's Suit' and 'Sweet Defeat' albums from Radio 2.
