Watch List: Idesia Pulls The Trigger To Showcase Their Enchanting Sophistication
They may have recently opened for rising stars of the neo-soul scene, Moonchild, but upon coming across Los Angeles-based band Idesia we were quickly convinced that they deserve a stage and spotlight all their own. The USC Thornton School of Music educated band may variously describe their music as 'soul electronic...experimental soundscapes with pop accessibility...groovy urban trance', but, whatever the label, the simple fact is that this is a band that enchants and entrances the listener with a sophisticated musical sensibility that infuses the effortlessly engaging ambience of its supremely polished neo-soul, jazz, hip hop and electronic inspired eclecticism with a lush, uniquely distinctive aural signature that is perfectly crowned by the emotive beauty of singer Sophie Dimitroff's smoothly mature vocal tone.
Inspired by the likes of J Dilla, Flying Lotus, Nujabes, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Sade, Robert Glasper and Amy Winehouse to name a few, the band had its beginnings when Dimitroff and keyboard player Colton Toy began writing together in 2012, with drummer Brandon Combs and bassist Daniel Oldham joining the band after late night jam sessions revealed a meeting of musical minds. Following the release of Dimitroff and Toy's 'othernights' mini-album, the band have been releasing new material to an ever growing fanbase, and have performed at The Bootleg Theatre, Festival of Books and the Swichfoot Bro-Am.
