Watch List: Fall For The Dreamy Oasis of LANKS
There are times you find yourself mindlessly exploring the deep sea of music available online, itching for that certain sound. That certain sound that breaks the barrier of oversaturated musicianship, being more so a piece of work that is utterly conscious and forward thinking. When you find that sound, a sense of miraculousness disarms you and opens its embrace to you and your pool of emotion. You're audially pulled in different directions, all seeming to be the correct path, dusting off the little corners of your mind you haven't explored in quite some time; nostalgia, they call it. But this sound is as fresh and new as it is familiar, creating a sense of comfort and spontaneity. Score -- you've found your new favorite artist.
We could pin the cause of this sensation on Will Cuming, better known in the world of music as LANKS.
This progressive musician hails from the lands of Melbourne, Australia and isn't exactly new to the world of audial art. Studying jazz guitar at the Victorian College of the Arts, his craft is trained from the start. Taking this expertise, he dove into the world of electro pop, experimenting with his instrumentation to produce something that is all his own.
But production and instrumentation doesn't end the spectrum. His wide vocal range and impressive approach to melodies (and harmonies alike) make the perfect cocktail for eclecticism and innovative artistry. His likability was seemingly instant, creating music that is certainly a signature sound while and still relatable and appealing to lovers of all genres.
In July 2015, LANKS released his self-produced EP, Banquet, which was the first body of work we were exposed to by the artist. Quite compelling in aesthetic, the tracks teeter on the edges of abstract electronica (like "Beach Houses") and dreamy indie (similar to "Whale Song") -- it is truly the sound of LANKS, nothing less than him being his own self and letting it show through his art.
Most recently, his single "Bitter Leaf" dropped, holding your hand through a soundscape of harmonic bliss and catchy melodies. After letting his repertoire play on repeat, this single surely symbolizes the cherry on top of our firm belief in this artist.
