Watch List: Dru Chen Is Swept Up In A 'Crazy Love'
Catching our attention back in 2012 with the arresting clarity, sensitivity and emotionally articulate beauty of his voice, Australian pop/funk/soul singer Dru Chen impressed with the kind of instinctive talent that marked him out as someone who was sure to go places. Capable of laying down a groove to get you moving with his eclectically inspired brand of soulful, funky pop, Chen's effortless versatility just as easily allows him to slow things down and draw the listener in with his truly heartfelt and moving ability to get to the emotive heart of a lyric, as he shows here with his tender rendition of Van Morrison's 'Crazy Love'.
Proving the talent and self confidence - he once turned down a scholarship to Berklee College of Music to concentrate on his writing - that stood out to us back in 2012, in the years since Chen has marked off numerous milestones as his career has burgeoned, including having his 2014 single 'Turn Around' from his 'Intentions' EP gain radio play the U.S., Australia and Singapore; he performed alongside D'Angelo, Maxwell, Jill Scott and Common at Soulfest in Melbourne, Australia; he performed in front of 3 million people on national TV in Singapore for New Year's Eve 2015; during several trips to L.A., he performed at venues such as The Viper Room and School Night at Bardot.
Having layed a promising foundation for his career, Chen looks forward to 2015 saying '2015 is going to bring in new music. Without giving too much away, it is going to be a history lesson drawing from some 60 years of funk, soul and rhythm & blues music. Exciting collaborations and videos will be revealed later in the year. Thanks again for rolling along on the Dru-train... all aboard'.
