Watch List: Clyde Lawrence Turns the Temperature Up On Nelly's 'Hot in Herre'
Nelly may have warmed things up by declaring it's 'Hot In Herre', but 20-year-old New York native Clyde Lawrence and his band have positively turned the temperature up on the hip-hop classic with the 'funkified' trumpet, sax and infectious groove of their barrelingly energetic live rendition, with Lawrence demonstrating both the raw, soulful grit that inhabits his voice and an instinctive musical prowess that has already seen him compose songs for Hollywood films and work with Grammy-winners.
A musician and songwriter who has been influenced by the likes of Ray Charles, Jackson 5, Randy Newman, Stevie Wonder, and Amy Winehouse and who is looking to 'bring a sliver of the Motown sound into the 21st century', Lawrence began playing piano and writing music from the age four, demonstrating his precocity by writing at the age of six a song that was featured in the film 'Miss Congenialty' (2000), the accomplishment of which saw him become the youngest member of the Songwriters Guild of America. Going on to write the Hugh Grant performed 'Dance With Me Tonight' for the movie 'Music & Lyrics' (2007), for which he also contributed some of the score, he also wrote and performed tracks for 'Did You Hear About The Morgans' (2009), and his music is due to be featured in the upcoming films ''The Rewrite' (2015) and 'Hard Sell' (2015).
Further underscoring his oustanding musical talents, Lawrence has also appeared on ABC's Good Morning America, NBC's The Today Show, and Fox's Good Morning New York, and has also worked with, and been produced by, acclaimed songwriter/producer Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne/That Thing You Do!) and engineer Geoff Sanoff, as well as writing for and performing alongside Grammy Award-winning jazz singer/producer Steve Tyrell. Releasing the 'Homesick' EP in 2013, he currently attends Brown University and regularly plays around the Northeast with his band, with his original music finding itself in rotation on New England’s WBRU at 95.5 FM.
