WATCH LIST: City of the Sun Reinvents Indie Rock
City of the Sun is a New York City based acoustic trio. Their killer live performances have built a steady fan base, selling out Gramercy Theater, playing the opening party for CMJ, and even opening for Gregg Allman.
The trio includes John Pita, Avi Snow, Zach Para, two guitars, a box, and bells. They've found a way to mix elements of blue grass with modern indie rock. Their unique approach created the space for their songs to be free of song lyrics - and with a sound like this, lyrics aren't necessary. Their message comes across through the music, especially when performing live. As a lyrical analyst, this approach fascinates me.
City of the Sun has just signed with Chesky Records and they begin recording their album in December. They are launching an east coast tour in January, playing at the Brooklyn Bowl on January 7th.
