Watch List: Calma Carmona - Save Me (There's No Other Girl)
Her unique and absorbing Latin Soul vibe has seen her selected by MTV Iggy as an 'Artist Of The Week', and, following an special appearance at our Sol Village showcase recently, and most recently selected to perform as the opening act for Beyonce's visit to Puerto Rico on the Mrs. Carter tour 2013. Filmed at La Casa de Los Contrafuertes in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the mesmerically charismatic Calma Carmona, her smoldering presence crowned by a swirl of dreadlocks, gives her all in a 'Live EP Session' of two of her English language tracks from her upcoming 'There's Only One Girl' EP, losing herself in the music with a sultry self-confidence as she sings of heartbreak, her captivating voice a beguiling mixture of passionate, slow burning, heartfelt emotion, natural vocal breaks and raw, from-the-gut vocalizations as she fearlessly wears her heart on her sleeve, vulnerable and defiant in equal measure as she gives an unfiltered accounting of her emotions.
Having lived in a variety of cities growing up, the bi-lingual Carmona absorbed a range of cultural and musical influences, including John Coltrane, Santana, PJ Harvey, La Lupe and Tina Turner, saying 'what I have always done well is express myself, that's what fulfills me. I don't want to do what everyone says I need to do'.
