Watch List: B.B. London - Fall Hard
Blacktree Music artist B.B. London says simply, 'I was born with this voice'...and we say, 'what a voice to be born with!'; her self-described 'heavy tone' and its naturally rich resonance is infused with a husky, rasp-flecked catch that is distinctively hers while echoing the legends she grew up listening to, the likes of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Janis Joplin, her uniquely compelling vocals assuredly capable of expressing the deepest and most subtle of emotions. Raised with eclectic parental musical influences that ranged from acid-jazz to hip-hop, London says 'it was hard for a long time for me, because I started singing seriously when I was 12, it was really hard for me to find a fit where I can just be myself and it would make sense...now that I'm older...I really feel it is the time that I can just really be myself and show the world what I do'.
A fan of every genre of music, London suggests her writing style is based on those artists 'with really deep set emotions...people who really went through stuff, and that authenticity', the likes of Joplin and Fitzgerald, alongside contemporaries like Emily King and Esperanza Spalding, saying it 'really translates through my music', her song 'Fall Hard' showcasing her effortlessly smoky vocals and intimate lyricism. With her dream being to work with Salaam Remi, she says 'all I'm trying to do is have fun, and do what I love to do, be around people and perform, you know, spread my music around, that's all I'm looking for; I really value the journey...this is something I was born to do', and, at TheNext2Shine, we are sure that wherever the destination of London's musical journey ends up being is somewhere that we want to be.
