We pride ourselves with the talent that we've featured. After all.. we don't just call ourselves Next2Shine just for kicks! This page is dedicated to a handful of the acts we've watched grow since featuring them -- sometimes even premiering them! Click on each artist to find out more.
We caught this bright musical talent on Day 17th of her 365 YouTube project (“A Song A Day") and were the first one's to ever book her for a gig at our monthly Sol Village showcase here in New York City. Since then, Kirby has opened up for Miguel, has signed a publishing deal with Roc Nation.
Sebastian Mikael (De-Lor)
He's a talent, that from the start, knew he had international appeal with his lyrics and melodies. His original song "Beautiful Life" caught the attention of our ears a couple weeks after being on YouTube. After his feature on our site, he also caught the attention of Amanda Berkowitz (VP of A&R) which introduced him to Sylvia Rhone (previously served as President of Universal Motown Records) who signed him on the spot under her own joint-venture label with Epic Records, Vested in Culture. Most recently, Kevin Liles's KWL Management team stepped in to co-manage the young talent.
Featured under our Watch List section in 2010, his talents were soon after recognized by Compound Entertainment's very own Ne-Yo. That led to a very secret meeting that we had to keep on the down low for months (bummer). Anyways since then he has signed to Parlophone UK (Warner Music Group), has garnered over 72 Million views on YouTube, and won MTV's Brand New Artist Awards (2012), all while having his album "Contrast" sitting at the #1 spot in the UK.
secretly one of our favorite acts we ever ran into! After a month of uploading her performance on YouTube we discovered her and quickly featured her (April 2011) while calling dibs on her. Well, after closely watching her progress and continuously staying on top of her career, we noticed a year later that BET Music Maters campaign featured her and also placed her on a national TV spotlight at their annual BET Awards. Questlove (from The Roots) has caught the tail-end of the wave and is now supporting her career.
Is there even a need for an introduction here? Although the track wasn't R&B/Soul (which is what we focus heavily on), it was a no-brainer. "Somebody That I Used To Know" was featured on the site within minutes of discovery (at the time it still had yet to break into the US Market) and since our feature the infamous body-paint video clip has had over 381 Millions views on YouTube alone, has reached the top 10 in more than 30 countries around the world, and in the 2013 Grammy's he won Best Alternative Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (along with Kimbra).
Black Bear (Mat Musto)
Having featured him back in March 2010 premiering his track "Dreams", we knew we had something special on our plate since Ne-Yo's Compound University was behind him. Mat went to go on working independently and also changed his name to Black Bear which is when he met new musical mentor Mike Posner. Since our feature Black Bear has gained the attention of Arizona Iced Tea (which sponsored his live performances), Grooveshark (where he debuted his mixtape), and went on to co-write Justin Bieber's "BoyFriend" track. It was later announced that the track was the fastest-selling digital track since Bruno Mars’ "Grenade" single and the fourth-best digital seller since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking download sales in 2003. We were flabbergasted after seeing his video "Unaware" on YouTube back in 2011 which he performed in his mother's living room (3 days after he posted it). Since our feature on Allen he's performed on National TV (Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Call with Carson Daly), followed by Esquire, CNN and Billboard dubbing Stone as an "artist to watch", and eventually led to him signing with to ATO Records via BJ Olin (Red Light Management).
The UK-bred talent had his first ever interview with us! We first featured Bluey when we premiered his music video for "I Know" back in July of 2009. He was later signed to Sony RCA and is also being taken under the wing of Ryan Leslie somewhat. Check out the background music for Ryan's tour promo video (It's his own remix of Bluey's single).
The Royal Concept
We had our eyes on this band for quite some time and first featured their live video performance for D-D-Dance under our Watch List section, the second we found out about it. The Swedish band, at the time, never stepped foot in America and knew that they were definitely someone to keep an eye on. A couple months later, they were signed to Lava Records (Universal Republic) in America, and a year after featuring them on our site they hit #2 on Hype Machines Most Popular list which finally broke them into the blogosphere..
We premiered this talent when we posted his music video "Yo Mama". Since then he's performed at Sol Village, made his Television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, hand-picked for the Official Rags 2 Riches SXSW Showcase 2013 (hosted by Diddy), and was the Grand Prize Winner in the R&B category for The John Lennon Songwriting Contest 2013.
We premiered his (secret) debut music video for "Let The Sun Shine" which reached #3 in UK singles charts and eventually became the third most successful single from the album "Electronic Earth". The album was developed under Simon Cowell's Syco Music.
We caught her at the early stage of her independent musical career while attending NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music & when she only had one or two other features on any other blog/website. We featured her on our Watch List section the same day, setup an interview a week later, and booked her for our Sol Village showcase the next month. The CEO/Founder of MBK Entertainment, Jeff Robinson (Alicia Keys, Elle Varner, Tyrese), has expressed an interest in her talents, as did MTV when they placed her on the voting ballot for their first ever Chevrolet Sonic College Artist Woodie Award for SXSW 2013 (Kiah was one out of four artists chosen).
Originally featured under our Watch list in August of 2012, Sonna quickly gained our attention when she premiered her Music Monday acoustic sessions. In March of 2013 Sonna gets signed to Universal Motown Records by Ne-Yo (VP of A&R) himself.
V Bozeman (That Girl V)
Veronika sparked our interested early on as she did vocal production for Rihanna, Keri Hilson, Monica, El DeBarge, and Patti LaBelle, and even starred in a couple music videos herself. After falling in love with her we couldn't find a reason not to featured her on our #Discovery project and a couple months after that she was taken under the wing of Cee-Lo Green. Most recently she's opened up Cee-Lo's Loberace show in Las Vegas, has been featured on Lexus and Microsoft/Bing "Fresh Persepective" segment, and was also later featured on BET's Music Matters.
Just four days after the duo uploaded their famous rendition of Chris Brow's "Look At Me Now" onto YouTube, we had it up on our Watch List section. Since then the video has garnered +80 Million views on YouTube, appearances and performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve '13, & also inked a deal with Epic Records via LA Reid under the guidance of Nils Gums (The Complex Music Group).
premiered music video for "My Girl" (+32 Million views on YouTube) which came off their debut album "Number 1 Girl" which peaked at the #2 spot under Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart
We were the first US-based website to premiere her song/video for the original "We Run The Night" single, which later grew in popularity due to a verse from Pitbull and peaked at #1 on the Hot Dance Club Songs (Billboard), Platinum in the US, and went 3× Platinum in Australia. The video has managed to garner over +27 Million views on YouTube alone.
We were the first US-based website to premiere the music video "Written In The Stars" which has since reached over +92 Million views on YouTube, has been certified Gold (UK), reached #1 on the UK Singles, and #7 on the US Pop Songs Billboard Charts.
We premiered his music video "Get To Know Me" in 2009. Mateo later signed to Interscope in 2012 and is currently working on his new project.
We are proud to say that we premiered her rendition of "Poetic Justice" (Kendrick Lamar) which was picked up by VIBE Magazine, ConcreteLoop, SingersRoom, DigiWaxx, NecoleBitchie. The video has reached +100K views on YouTube since then.
Originally featured on our Watch List back in 2010 for her original song "Love, Traitors, & Fate". Signed to Atlantic Records in 2012, performed at Sol Village, featured on #Discovery (Part 2) mixtape series, collaborated with Cee-Loo's "Only You", and originally mentored by producer Kwame.
We premiered her music video "Left Hand Side" and since then she's been featured on SingersRoom, ThisIsRnB, YouKnowIGotSoul, and countless other outlets.
She was discovered under her original name (Erin Prestileo) in 2006 and is currently on American Idol 2013.
Featured on the site since 2011, added him to our first #Discovery series, and was later noticed and picked out by Ne-Yo's Compound Entertainment. Trevor was also the musical talent behind the production and songwriting of 98 Degrees 2013 single "Microphone" off the 2.0 album (their first single/album of new material in 13 years). The song’s debut comes two months after the boy band announced they will be joining New Kids On The Block and Boyz II Men for a The Package Tour this summer.
Featured on the site since 2011, the pair of talents (still not forming their "Duo" just yet) were growing their fanbase on Youtube were we quickly took notice. Since then the duo have moved onto to sign with Universal Republic in 2014 (which came to be recognized as the first major talents to be signed off Vine's platform), and were also showcased nationwide on Good Morning America, and Oprah's National Tour.
We're proud to say that we were the first US-based website to premiere Sam Smith's original material with his break-out song "Lay Me Down". Since then Sam has garnered media attention worldwide.. with 6 Grammy Nominations (including 'Song Of The Year'), he's the first singer to hit 1 million albums sold in both the US and the UK in 2014, earning him a prime spot on SNL, while his "Stay With Me" single sold 3 Million and over 179 Million views on Youtube.. 2014 was the year of Sam Smith without a doubt.
As lovers of music we kept a close eye on Magic's lead singer, Nasri Atweh, and eventually premiered his music video "Click Click Click" back in 2008 (eventually given to New Kids on the Block). Nasri went on to write tracks for for Justin Bieber, Shakira, Pitbull, Iggy Azalea, and Chris Brown with his partner Adam Messinger. In 2012 the Toronto band Magic was formed and "Rude" has sparked more thank 300 Million views on Youtube, is certified three-times Platinum while peaking on both US & UK Single Charts on the #1 spot, leading them to contribute to the Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Album, and constantly being featured on countless media outlets.
We first heard about the Canadian talent back in 2011, and in 2012 we quickly featured his first song once it became available online. He's taken under the wings of Chris Smith Management (Nelly Furtado, Fefe Dobson, Tamia) and signed to Atlantic Records via Aaron Bay-Schuck. Pharell & Timbaland are both calling him the "next thing" in music, while Diane Warren declares "he's a star".
