The Rooks Muse Over 'Secrets'
When we came across the funky instincts and smooth grooves of New York-based indie r&b/soul sextet The Rooks last year, it was clear to us that the band founded at Wesleyan College over a shared love of the likes of D'Angelo, The Roots, Erykah Badu, J Dilla, Sly & The Family Stone and Stevie Wonder was one to watch for the future. Having invited them to play our New York showcase last November, in the time since we have watched on as the band have continued to grow their reputation on the East Coast scene through touring with their infectiously energetic and passionate live show; following their residency at Pianos - the second highest grossing ever - by being named Deli Magazine's 'Artist Of The Month', The Rooks recently played a sold out show at New York's prestigious Mercury Lounge.

As they look to follow up the 'Something You Can Take' EP with the release of their new EP, 'Wires', the band's new single, 'Secrets', continues the lush, funk-hued and warmly inviting mellow-grooved musical mindset that so distinctively marks their artistic sensibility, with singer Garth Taylor's smoothly soulful and articulately emotive vocals channeling a thoughtful introspection as he documents the confusing opacity of hard to decipher feelings.
Having witnessed the passion and energy of their sensationally infectious live show at our showcase last year, we are pleased, in conjunction with ASCAP, to be hosting The Rooks again at our upcoming Champagne Social showcase at this years CMJ Music Marathon.
