Ripe Will Have You Up And Grooving With 'Hey Hello' EP
Boston-based Ripe may be casting their musical net wide with their self-described 'dance/pop-funk/party rock' sound, but upon listening it soon becomes apparent just why they have snared the attention of their hometown. Driven by the vision that 'with enough passion and honesty, music can still make the earth shake', the band have conjured up an electrifying amalgam of pop, funk, rock and soul that is an ebullient blast of funky, rock-laced guitar licks, infectious grooves and sunny, vivacious horns.
Addictive and effervescent, the band - Robbie Wulfsohn (vocals), Tory Geismar (guitar), Jon Becker (guitar), Sampson Hellerman - (drums), Josh Shpak - (trumpet, EWI0), Calvin Barthel - (trombone) - have well and truly made their name on the Boston music scene. Building a stellar reputation for the unrestrained energy of their live show, Ripe recently further confirmed their ascent by winning the Outside The Box 'Boston Breakout' competition and being named as WERS 88.9FM's 'Highlighted Artist' of the week, as well as landing features in the Boston Globe.
Catching our attention earlier in the year with the irrepressibly groovy 'Brother Sky' single, the band have now followed their first EP, 'Produce The Juice', with their second EP, 'Hey Hello'. Led by the passionate, soulful grit of Robbie Wulfsohn's powerhouse vocals, the band showcase their effortless technical facility for superbly executing intricate and sophisticated arrangements with a compelling élan. From 'Brother Sky's funky, horn-drenched exuberance through to to 'Talk To The Moon''s galloping, rock-infused shimmer, and from 'Goon Squad''s riff-burnished swagger to 'Caralee''s wistful poignance, 'Hey Hello' is the perfect salute to Ripe's declared musical ambition of 'looking back to the inception of both funk and psychedelic music, and..looking forward with a modern concept of what makes people move'.
