Nick Hakim enchants us with Where Will We Go Pt. 1 EP
He's managed to give us waves of goosebumps with his live performances, and having been featured on our website early on in his career, it's truly a pleasure to see Nick's artistic vision blossom. Like any career in music, it all boils back to the music. Filled with emotion, his debut EP 'Where Will We Go Pt. 1' takes us into a hypnotic state of musical appreciation yearning for part 2 of the project (we hope there's a #2!).
Washington, D.C. native Nick Hakim hasn’t lived in New York for too long. The playful glimmer in his eyes has yet to fade; he doesn’t hide behind a veil of apathy like those who’ve been chewed up and spit out by the city that never sleeps. For now, he’s settled in a Bed-Stuy apartment where space is tight and his buddies make coffee and grilled cheese during our afternoon visit. Cassette tapes are piled up in every corner—from My Bloody Valentine to Florida jazz great Doug Carn. Even before we’re rolling, Nick jumps into a version of “Cold” that’s dripping with angst and vulnerability; you get the impression he’d play it just the same if he were alone in the room. An old soul with a youthful lust for life, Nick’s the kind of guy who will give you a heart-melting cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” when you simply ask him the check the sound levels on his gear.
