Never Too Late to Have "Adventures in Real Time"
Attack of the young people! The list of releases from this week features a number of artists who are either teenagers themselves or their audiences are. Sawyer Fredricks (16) released his debut, self-title album yesterday and Alessia Cara (19), Justin Bieber, and One Direction are all set to drop their albums tomorrow (Nov. 13). While your head might be spinning from all of these releases, we want you to keep in mind one teen that may have slipped under your radar – Dylan Gardner.
At the tender age of 17 Dylan released his debut album Adventures in Real Time last year. The track list features only ten songs from the over 100 he had written and recorded for his fresh release. To get ready for the album, Dylan studied musical great like The Beatles, Sam Cooke, and Del Shannon all of whom he also cites as some of his biggest inspirations. The old school flavor of these artists seeps into his own work, apparent in songs/videos like “Lets Get Started” where he looks like he could have easily been the youngest member of The Beatles. (He’s so closely associated with the band that when he released a series of 15 second covers of songs from side two of Abbey Road the hashtag #DylanBrokeUpTheBeatles was trending, commemorating the 44th anniversary of their break up). His voice itself goes beyond his boyish looks and the song sounds like it could have easily been a contemporary of the artists he looks up to. He’s kept busy since the release, recently opening for Emily Kinney during her 2015 summer tour and performing at SXSW this year.
It’s never too late to get to know Dylan Gardner, an artist who may be young in years but is definitely mature in sound. Buy his debut album here!
