Music Video: Unbuttoned - Shy Cry
Creating a buzz when they appeared in New York at the end of last year for both our 'Live From Oz' showcase and the CMJ 2013 'Best Of Raw' showcase at SOB's, Toronto-based Unbuttoned's creative, genre-defying amalgam of r&b, pop, hip-hop and electronic influences that draws inspiration from the likes of N.E.R.D., Jamiroquai, Michael Jackson and the Cocteau Twins channels a dreamy, emotionally introspective alt-r&b consciousness that has seen them share stages with The Weeknd, SHAD, Lupe Fiasco and Jhene Aiko.
Having released their debut EP Electric Kingdom in 2012, and as they look forward to the June 24th release of their new album 'Planes', they have just released lupine-themed, dance inspired visuals for the haunting vulnerability of 'Shy Cry''s pensively swirling soundscape, the delicate beauty of Casey MQ and Kamilah Apong's poignantly confessional vocals expressing the sentiments that saw Casey write ''Shy Cry' at a time when I felt happiness was not attainable. I felt it was easier to be complacent than to be happy. My surroundings continued to prove and remind me that the 'straight' way was the easier way. I wrote this song as a cry for help to myself because when it came down to it, only I was in charge of my actions. Freedom was what I was constantly searching for. Freedom from myself'.
