Music Video: The Rooks - Intermission (Wires)
Won over at first listen by the smooth sophistication of their eclectically inspired indie soul/r&b that will just as easily have you out of your seat and grooving as it will tug at your heartstrings, it has been gratifying over the last couple of years to see The Rooks continue to carve out a distinctive niche for themselves on the East Coast music scene. From performing at several of our own showcases in New York - including a standout set at our CMJ showcase last year - to residencies at Arlene's Grocery and Pianos NYC, the band continue to burnish their reputation for brilliantly ear-catching and soul-satisfying music that goes to another level again when they hit the stage, with the ever growing buzz around the energy and charisma of their live show recently finding themselves catching an endorsement from The New Yorker. Heady stuff for the Wesleyan College spawned sextet, and they are back with the fresh, vibrantly colored street art inspired visuals for the staccato synth and jazzy guitar of 'Intermission' (Wires) tale of a missed emotional connection, the velvet soul and emotive textures of singer Garth Taylor's voice set against a soaring vocal motif and a crescendo of swelling harmonies.
If you are in New York, you can catch The Rooks for free at Rockwood Music Hall on the 21st.
