Music Video: STELLA - Switch
Close your eyes. Listen for it. The sound and feeling you’re so accustomed to hearing in Carlos Santana’s music… is nowhere to be found. Artistically, she goes by the moniker STELLA and although she is the daughter of legendary guitarist Carlos Santana - she wants you to know she has her own sound. Stella makes her debut on Billboard.com with “Switch”, the second single coming from the sultry singer-songwriter. She has managed to create a song with help from production duo Caswell, resembling the rhythm of a heart beat and lyrics that relate to all the torn victims of heartbreak. Stella’s voice seeps into your mind as she delivers haunting but melodic lines such as “but im scared there’s no one else for me” and “is this what moving on feels like?”. The video directed by Taryn “Teek” Anderson is like a snapshot of the very moment everything changes in a relationship, perfectly portraying the transition through text messages and a visual tumult of emotion.
Stella Santana started the guitar and piano at age 5 but now that she’s 30, she has discovered her own sound of R&B and Soul. She loves her father’s music but using her last name would be too “Santana-y” and “it’s just not me” she explained in an interview on Sway In The Morning. Her first single "Friends" debuted earlier this year, has over 26K listens on her Soundcloud, and has been featured by Pigeons and Planes and A.R.T.S.Y., most notably for its alt-R&B sound and visual artistry. Her debut album Selfish will feature most of the production by fellow Jared Evan. Regarding the title, Stella says “I’ve been called selfish in relationships and I’ve always taken it as somewhat of a compliment because I think that, especially as women, we’re taught to nurture other people and always be giving toward others but never to ourselves first.” Selfish is set for release later this year.
