Music Video: Sabrina Starke Ft Ziggi Recardo - Backseat Driver
Originally from the South American country of Suriname, and now resident in the Netherlands, singer/songwriter Sabrina Starke says from a young age 'I always loved music, singing in my bedroom, you know, with a comb in your hand', and her influences, 'I really love Billie Holiday, but also Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, I love Tracy Chapman', are reflected in her musical mix of folk, jazz, soul and r&b, and, here in her song 'Backseat Driver', there is even a splash of her Caribbean roots.
Drawing inspiration from 'good times and bad times, love, old soul/jazz singers and life experiences', in 2008 she released her first, self-produced album 'Yellow Brick Road', from which the song 'Foolish' appeared on the ABC TV show 'Brothers & Sisters', with the album being re-released with bonus material in 2009 after she signed with EMI/Blue Note. 'Bags & Suitcases' followed in 2010, with Sabrina working with producer Pete Wallace (Pink, Michael Bolton, Herbie Hancock), and she again worked with Wallace on 2012's 8Ball Music released 'Outside The Box', an album that saw her looking to create a 'danceable record', 'I want you to feel an irresistible urge to move when listening to this album'. A two-time winner of the Edison Award music prize, she has just released her latest album 'Lean On Me - The Songs of Bill Withers', and says 'my big goal is to make it internationally...I just want to see the world and meet a lot of people, it's very exciting to think of how it could be if you play in other countries...I have big dreams'.
