Music Video: Random Ax Of Charlie - Try Again
Having worked behind the scenes in the music industry as a multi-platinum songwriter for artists like Rihanna, Melanie Fiona and Japan's Kumi Koda, with worldwide sales of over 8 million, and as part of the songwriting team with The Conglomerate having collaborated with producers such as Stargate, Kosine of the Interns and Steve McKie, Charlie Vox (Charlene Gilliam) is now stepping out as an artist in her own right as the lead singer of the band Random Ax Of Charlie, her song 'Try Again' from the 'BPM's' mixtape, with it's funk-tinged groove, showcasing her songwriting as she wonders 'where did the love go' as she offers up her willingness to work on a relationship that has lost its way.
New Jersey raised, she grew up singing in the church and performing in talent shows, and through writing and singing background vocals for others, she provided background vocals for Estelle's 2012 tour, she says 'in the course of writing songs for other artist and singing background, I found my own voice...I’ve always wanted to be an entertainer. The most recent tour with Estelle lit an extra fire under me and made me even more committed to completing what I began, my own career as a performer/entertainer'. Saying that her style 'has been called retro nouveau, throw-back swag with a modern twist', Charlie is currently working on her own album that is being recorded with live instrumentation from her band, saying 'each song I’ve recorded was created with the live experience in mind. Studio recordings are great and I certainly want people to support my recordings, but I am the type artist who you’ll want to see perform live. One of the things I love about live music is the ability to improvise and performing as the lead vocalist of Random Ax of Charlie gives me the flexibility I need to experiment with sound, play with rhythms, blend genres. You’ll never know what to expect with me'.
