Music Video: Normanton Street - Take A Walk With Me
With their self-described musical brand of 'hip-hop soul' blending influences from the blues, hip-hop, soul, jazz and r'n'b to form a warmly organic amalgam of thoughtful lyricism, soulful vocals and polished production, U.K. band Normanton Street's latest incarnation came about when singer Phoebe Freya joined founding members Nicholson Davids and Ned Archibong in 2013, giving the band its distinct, diverse and complementary trio of voices that overlay their uniquely contemporary take on classic influences. Here showcased by the jazz-brushed guitar and unhurried bassline murmur of 'Take A Walk With Me', the sultry textures of Freya's intimately expressive vocals offer the invitation to 'take a ride with me, let's get out of the city scene, let's change our old routine, and forget about where we've been'.
Formed in 2011, the band started out with a relentless schedule of appearances on the open mic scene in Brighton, going on to release two EP's in 2012, 'Normanton Street' and 'All For You', gaining them both local radio play and a growing band of fans on the Brighton music scene. 2013 saw the band release the 'Table Top' mix tape well as founding their own label, QM Records, on which both 'Moves', and their most recent project, 'The Phoebe Freya EP' was released, and they continue to play a busy schedule of live shows to an ever growing fan base in cities in both the U.K and Wales, and, as well as supporting Bishop Nehru at his Brighton show on his European Tour, they also recently performed at both The Great Escape and The Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
