Music Video: Milo & Otis - Tiny Soldiers
Milo & Otis, a self-described 'adventure soul duo from Chicago', is comprised of singer/poet Jamila Woods, Milo, and multi-instrumentalist producer Owen Hill, Otis. They discovered a shared passion for music when they met at Brown University in 2007, but it wasn't until 2011 when Hill moved to Chicago to join a returning Woods that they combined their talents and began making music together. Woods, described as 'the lovechild of Erykah Badu and Ani DiFranco', says she 'started singing in the church choir when I was little, and then, kinda never considered myself as a soloist, really, until Owen was basically like, yes, you are going to do this...I really like layering vocals...I think that comes from always singing in a choir, always being in acapella groups, so as long as I can make my voice multiplied, I'm happy'. With Hill playing 'pretty much anything with strings and drums, piano, guitar, bass, violin', they made an 'exploratory' beginning with a christmas EP, and then in mid-2012, as Milo & Otis, they released their album 'The Joy', which they supported with 10-week, self-booked summer tour, with the Washington Post calling their music 'often adorable, but always with a little bite'. Here is the video for 'Tiny Soldiers' from the album, a song Hill describes as 'upbeat, it's dancy, and it's just a lot of vocals playing against each other'.
