Music Video: Mary C and The Stellars - Get Me Through
Mary C and The Stellars fuse together 'pop, soul, funk and blues', with singer Mary C saying 'we found a way to blend the worlds and create something new while still staying true to its roots. It's not about being retro or old school, but rather about bringing something new to the sounds of the past...it's an evolution'. She says 'the band is an electric mix of male and female dynamic on stage', with band members being drawn 'from past and existing friendships', and that the music she is putting out is 'very clap-your-hands, stomp-you-feet, get-into-it'. Mary C is the daughter of jazz singer Mercedes Hall, and the sister of actor Anthony Michael Hall, and says that 'I started writing really, really young, and my parents always encouraged, you know, not just to be a singer or vocalist, but really kind of try to stretch your limits and your talents...so songwriting was always, kind of like, ingrained at a very early age'. With her back-up singers 'The Sha'Nettes', who she describes as 'a new school throw back to what back-up vocalists were in the hey-day of the '60's and 70's', and band behind her, Mary C has created a buzz that has seen her open for artists like Emily King and Matisyahu; make an appearance on Fuse TV; perform at venues such as Rockwood Music Hall and Joe's Pub; be featured in Elle magazine; and play a private party for SNL. With 2013 seeing the release of her EP 'Right On Time', here she and her band perform 'Get Me Through'.
