Music Video: Jordan Rakei - My Time
Australian singer/songwriter Jordan Rakei's 'My Time' sees the video's protagonist grabbing a longboard and heading out to get away from it all, the song's languid piano and a subdued, pulsing bassline creating a ruminative, reflective mood as Rakei's soulfully relaxed and smoothly mellow voice sings of letting the day wash over him in anticipation of the excitement and new possibilities that the coming night may bring.
Having studied piano and guitar from a young age, and with influences including Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, D'Angelo, John Legend and James Blake, Rakei began to upload songs to Soundcloud at the start of 2013 as a 'sort of audio instagram... just quick songs all made in a day, all for fun', his Down Under blend of r&b, soul and neo-soul soon beginning to catch people's attention, to date notching up over 3,000 Soundcloud subscribers. Organically spreading through social media word of mouth, Rakei's music began to get airtime on Australian radio, and then further abroad, being played in France, Netherlands, England and the US, including KCRW.
Anticipation for his 'Franklin's Room' EP was fueled by the track 'Selfish', which racked up nrearly 70,000 listens on Soundcloud, and upon release the EP soon found itself on both the best-selling list and the radio show on Bandcamp, as well as recieving a very positive endorsement from singer/songwriter Jeremy Passion, and Rakei's ever growing reputation has seen him earn a support slot for Raul Midon in Melbourne and Sydney in November.
