Music Video: Jeffrey James - Gonna Do
Nashville based singer/songwriter Jeffrey James embraces a musical aesthetic that is steeped in the best traditions of honest emotional expression and a passionate on-stage dynamism, saying 'I would describe my music as rock/soul; it's rock and roll music infused with soul, r&b and blues', his warm and richly soul-infused vocal tone complemented by lyrics that are crafted by way of a tried and true songwriting ethos, 'if you want to be a songwriter, I always tell people you just need to write songs; sit in your room...and just write songs, because you are only going to get better about it by doing it', the slick musicianship, funky guitar licks, make-you-move-groove and polished performance energy of his live version of 'Gonna Do' a testament to his commitment for raw, soulful expression.
Having released 'Make Your Way To The Flashing Lights' in 2012 as well as playing a continuing schedule of shows at colleges and venues across the U.S., including winning a Vanderbilt battle of the bands to share the stage with Public Enemy, Sara Bareilles and The National, James approached 2013 with the idea for his 'Wide Awake' project, saying the collection of singles and accompanying videos that he put out last year sprang from the idea that 'each month I wrote six or seven songs and the producer and I would pick the one that we felt was the strongest and that worked with what we were doing'. This was followed by his most recent EP 'I'm Wide Awake, a remixing and remastering of the 'Wide Awake' project singles with the addition of two new songs, with 'Bad Woman' being picked up by ABC for the season 2 premier of the T.V. show 'Nashville'.
