Moose Blood's "Honey" Is Perfect For Driving With Your Windows Down
If you've never heard of Moose Blood then all I have to say is "you're welcome" in advance.
This emo, indie 4 piece, based out of Kent, England, brings new life to a saturated rock scene. They only have one album out currently titled I'll Keep You in Mind, From Time to Time that expresses a sound of punchy instrumentals driven by real specific and honest lyrics that you can't help but to sing along at the top of your lungs. This debut album, released in 2014, was probably my favorite release of that year and led to them gaining some niche attention in the music industry since it reached number 45 on the US Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. In the summer of 2015 they played Vans Warped Tour as their first tour of the United States and left their mark.
On April 13th Moose Blood announced that they had signed to Hopeless Records (Taking Back Sunday, Yellowcard, The Wonder Years) and would be releasing a second album through the new label. On April 17th vocalist Eddy Brewerton went on Radio 1 Rock Show to introduce the band's brand new single "Honey" and to announce that their new album Blush would be released on August 5th. Then today, to everyone's anticipation, a music video for "Honey" was posted on YouTube. The video has an over-dramatic, comical 1950's-inspired theme where a creepy, strict father loses control of his family. It begins with some over-the-top scenes of an innocent family doing every activity together but then slowly turns into a disaster. The daughter gets intrigued by the new rock culture of the time and gets a greaser boyfriend, the son's diet goes completely down the tube, and the mother has an affair with the guy taking care of the house. A lot to take in for the father for sure.
"Honey" is definitely different than most of I'll Keep You in Mind, From Time to Time in that for me it is a little more upbeat. I would say though that it is still super catchy melodically and the lyrics still have their emotional roots. It will be interesting to see what the rest of Blush will have to offer. The band is currently touring the UK and will be touring the rest Europe in the summer and early fall, but definitely keep them on your radar if they don't have a show near you at the moment. Check them out on Spotify or YouTube if you've never heard of their music and I really hope anyone that reads this enjoys Moose Blood as much as I do.
