Kevin Ross Takes Us Into The Unknown With "Dialogue In The Grey" EP
When Ne-yo calls you the “future of Motown” and Maxwell says that after hearing him, “your ears will never be the same,” you know have something special. Kevin Ross is the new addition to UMRG (aka Motown Records) and has released his debut EP (available on iTunes). “Dialogue In The Grey” is the first project by this promising artist that manages to make a jaw-dropping impression every time he sings. The young Berklee Grad and Atlanta native manages to be an incredible example of everything a contemporary R&B artist is while also representing everything that old school R&B was.
"Dialogue In The Grey" is a four-track EP that includes what Kevin Ross is and what the future of R&B could sound like.
“Don’t Say You Will” featuring fellow Atlanta native T.I., may be a spinoff from Kanye West but you’ll find yourself hearing a new song that could only be pulled off by Ross.
Ross explains in “Overrated” that he will “take love anyday over nights of being single. It’s getting to the point, I can’t cope… the single life is overrated.” The combination of a melody that will be sure to stick in your head and a collaboration with mentor, Ne-yo, this song might be the new heartbreak anthem.
“When you’re tired of living blindly, you know just where to find me,” sings Ross about falling in love with a girl that will choose “Money Over Love.” The song takes you through different sounds, going from harmony-filled, to bass heavy, and then piano-driven – showing the versatility and creativity of Ross.
“Dream” is hands down the most alluring song on the EP. With a slight semblance of a OneRepublic track, Ross shows crossover potential - showing off his falsetto and a big chorus singing “So don’t make me dream, if I got what I want here in reality…” (If you listen closely, you can hear Ne-yo providing backup.)
If his name doesn’t sound familiar, his voice definitely will. Since our first feature on the relatively unknown artist last year, Kevin Ross has been busy. He recently toured with Maxwell on his “Summer Solstice” tour, performed at the BET Honors 2013 and BET Music Matters showcase, Motown Tribute Concert, Essence Music Festival and has been dubbed the “Best New R&B Artist” by AOL Music. “Dialogue In The Grey” is set for release on September 16, 2014.
